Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse is a pattern of behaviour on the part of the abuser designed to control their partner. It can happen at any point in a relationship, including after you have split up.

We can support you with specialist services in your community, we can help break the cycle. We can help with accommodation and support, we can help you start again, we can help you build a future without fear or violence.

The longer you stay in an abusive relationship, the greater the physical, mental, and emotional toll.  It can be hard to recognize or admit that you're in an abusive relationship — but help is available.

Remember, it’s not your fault, no one deserves to be abused.

A personal safety plan is a way of helping you protect yourself and increase your safety either within the relationship or when you decide to leave.

In an EMERGENCY always call 999.

Call a women's shelter or domestic violence hotline for advice. Make the call at a safe time — when the abuser isn't around — or from a friend's house or other safe location.

Pack an emergency bag that includes items you'll need when you leave, such as extra clothes and keys. Leave the bag in a safe place, perhaps with a neighbour you trust.

Tell a trusted neighbour what is happening, tell them to call the police if they hear sounds of an attack.

Keep important personal papers, money, and prescription medications handy so that you can take them with you on short notice.

Keep your phone charged.

Be prepared - Know exactly where you'll go and how you'll get there.

In an EMERGENCY always call 999.
