Leave to remain in the UK.

An asylum seeker is a person who has left their country and is seeking protection from persecution and serious human rights violations in another country, but who hasn’t yet been legally recognized as a refugee and is waiting to receive a decision on their asylum claim.

Asylum seekers are refugees are amongst the most vulnerable people in our society. They need help and support to understand the choices they make and make sense of and come to terms with their past.

If you are granted asylum in the UK, you are recognised as a refugee under the 1951 Refugee Convention and are allowed to remain in the UK for upto 5 years this is called limited leave to remain. When leave to remain is granted, you will have the right to work, and claim benefits and access mainstream housing.

If you are granted asylum in the UK, we can help you settle in your new community, we can offer housing and support, help with language, training and education, employment opportunities, advocacy and translation services.

We have interpreters, and documents available in many languages, and most importantly we have experienced and caring staff who understand your unique situation and support needs.

Many of the people we see are profoundly traumatised by their past experiences and the asylum process adds an additional strain.

Our dedicated staff can provide one to one mental health support and we work closely with other agencies, both statutory and voluntary, as well as local community groups, to give our clients the best start in their new life in the UK.

We believe everyone should feel safe, secure and welcomed in their communities. We believe that this can be achieved by understanding and influencing the perception the public has of refugees, and communicating the positive impact of integration.
